doorways
My fascination for doorways. They all tell a story. A child peering out with dreams of a better world in its eyes..
The man in the doorway peers down looking at a commotion in the street down below..
Pictures taken in the old quarter of Havana La Habana Vieja. Old fading buildings from Havana's decadent past are now peeling and falling into ruins. The once grand buildings are being in habit ed by poor Cubans. Each doorway telling its own story.
Photos from Cuba showing a spruced up vintage car in front of the Capitolio in Havanna-City are sufficiently well known from guide books, photo collections and travel brochures. Placed next to elderly, rum drinking tourists or a Che Guevara puffing away at his cigar, they represent old clichés.
I thought that doorways gave me a new perspective of peoples ad buildings in Havana. The 3rd picture above has someone's washings.
When I travel I always ask people I meet "Can I have a slice of your life". I did have the time to meet any real cubans in my too short trip so I peered into their doorways hoping to get a glimpse of their lives.
