SHAAM-E-FIRAAQ

"Microsoft Word 11">
(Shaam-E-Firaaq Abb Na Puchh, Aayi Aur Aake Tal Gayi
Dil Tha Ke Phir Behal Gaya, Jaa Thi Ki Phir Sambhal Gayi) - 2
Shaam-E-Firaaq Abb Na Puchh

"Ask no more (about) the night of separation; it came, and passed
The heart got diverted again; life found its feet again"

SHAAM_E_FIRAAQ … the evening of separation …
what a huge span of time and experience seems
to be captured in the (otherwise simple) words
of these two lines...

(Bazm-e- Khayaal Mein Tere Husn Ki Shamma Jal Gayi) - 2
Dard Ka Chaand Bujh Gaya, Hijrr Ki Raat Dhal Gayi
Shaam-E-Firaaq Abb Na Puchh

"in the salon of (my) thoughts, the candle of your beauty was lighted
the moon-of-pain extinguished itself, the night of separation slipped away"

A phrase like 'dard kaa chaand bujh gayaa'
has the sort of beauty that defies translation.
'bazm-e-khayaal' is also tricky to capture the
sense of...
literally meaning a 'get-together of thought',

(Jab Tujhe Yaad Kar Liya, Subaho Mehak Mehak Uthi) - 2
Jab Tera Ghum Jega Liya, Raat Machal Machal Gayi
Shaam-E-Firaaq Abb Na Puchh, Aayi Aur Aake Tal Gayi

"whenever you were remembered, the mornings became fragrant
when your pain was awakened (jega liya), the nights grew restless"

How to capture the delicate words…”GHUM JEGA LIYA”
and RAAT MACHAL
MACHAL GAYI”….in English beats me….I give up ….

(Dil sae to har muamela , Kar kae chelai tae saaf hum
Kehenae mae unkae samanae, Baat bedel bedel geyi
Shaam-E-Firaaq Abb Na Puchh, Aayi Aur Aake Tal Gayi
Dil Tha Ke Phir Behal Gaya, (Jaa Thi Ki Phir Sambhal Gayi) - 3

"in the heart i had sorted out all the issues before setting out
(however) while recounting before her, (my) words changed themselves"

The poet's inability to present his heart's pain to the Beloved is lamented so beautifully here -

he explains that it isn't as though he hadn't figured out beforehand what he had to tell her, but when it actually came to telling her, he found that he had ended up saying something quite different than what he intended to...

one gets this wonderful picture of a smitten lover blundering ineffectually through an appeal to a impatient Beloved, and nervously ending up saying something else!

(Aakhir-E-Shab Ke Hamsafar Faiz Na Jaane Kya Huye) - 2
Reh Gayi Kis Jagah Saba, Subaho Ke Dhar Nikal Gayi
Shaam-E-Firaaq Abb Na Puchh, Aayi Aur Aake Tal Gayi
Dil Tha Ke Phir Behal Gaya, (Jaa Thi Ki Phir Sambhal Gayi) - 3

who knows where the fellow-travellers of the end-of-the-night went, Faiz?
at which spot did the breeze get left behind? and which way did the dawn walk off?

the 'fellow-travellers' who had come together at that magical moment when night was ending, namely the morning-breeze and the flush-of-dawn, lost each other's company soon after... the breeze lingered on at some crossroad and was left behind; the dawn raced off towards the brightness of the day...

That's some poetry, isn't it?

the mussel divers of Vizhinjam

The mussel divers of Vizhinjam

I am in Vizhinjam, a small fishing village 20 km south of the Keralan capital of Trivandrum or Thiruvananthapuraam as it is officially called.

I decided to take Ali’s invitation to see how he makes his living. Took my first morning walk in days since I sprained by ankle. Early morning is the only time to walk around due to the intense humidity. I must have walked 3 km to the end of the cove and after passing by the squalor of a settlement heavy with the heady smells of goats and human poo I come to this absolutely stunning headlands. I watch in amazement as thin scrawny men with nothing more then ancient snorkelling masks, a hook and some netting jump off the cliff into the raging Arabian Sea.

The see is rough and that’s an understatement. When the surf breaks on the rocks it shoots up 30-40 feet at times! The backwash must be a huge and very dangerous undertow that leaves a huge hole.

I watch as this man comes up to the edge of the cliff, sizes up the waves….waits for the correct wave to hit the rocks and he jumps into the back wash. A spit second mistake means that he either crashes his skull against the rocks or gets sucked into the hole created by the backwash.

I met Ali two nights ago as I was whiling my time away taking to my new found friends in front of my backpacker guest house that I stayed in. He had about 4 teeth and was easily 60 years old. He said that he can still free dive 10 meters!! A feat I did not believe being a former scuba diver. But watching these guys in the morning I now believe. Ali tells me his younger brother can free dive 15 meters! That’s amazing considering that even when you free dive about 2 meters you will need to equalize the pressure and imagine equalizing, diving and hacking off stubborn mussels off rocks in very rough water without oxygen. A feat of human endurance and conditioning.

(Photo taken in a backpacker guesthouse I stayed in whilst getting medical attention in Kerala. This is the view! My room was just above this and had a similar view. The room costs all of RM 55 per night!)

Reading a book when I chanced on the quip

"A seagull was flying over a beach when it saw a mouse. It flew down and asked the mouse” where are your wings”. Each animal speaks in its own language so the mouse did not understand the Seagull but stared at the two strange things attached to the seagull’s body.
It must have some illness the mouse thought
The seagull notices the muse staring at its wings and thought “Poor thing. It must have been attacked by a monster that left it for dead and took away his wings.”
Feeling sorry for the mouse, the seagull picked up the mouse and took it for a ride in the skies.” Its probably home sick” thought the seagull while they were flying and it then carefully dropped the mouse back on the beach.
For some months afterwards the mouse was sunk in gloom. It had known the heights, the beauty, seen the vast oceans and the beautiful world.
However in time it grew accustomed to be a mouse again and it came to believe that the miracle that had occurred in his life was nothing but a dream"

When we suffer, when we experience pain, when we undergo grief and heartache, the hurting actually purges ego and selfishness from our nature.

The soul - our true self - shines brighter in that moment.

Today, know that any emotional pain you may be experiencing is the Light's way of allowing your soul to blossom.

judgment

Our judgments of others serve us. They keep us separate, alone on our island, where no one can touch us. They keep us shielded from our pain.

Today, notice how you judge others - thinking you are better, smarter, richer, happier. Pay attention to how this keeps you separate, and safe.

its late

Nothing to do with the photo ..This was taken by me last week in Brisbane at last light of the day...

Its late and I had a very strong message from "God knows who" when I was visiting a spiritual place yesterday...WTF I personally don't really understand if such a place exist...any way the message really made sense...

As I bowed down to pay respects to Guruji and as usual I did not ask anything...just give praise and thanks for my bountiful life when a voice spoke to me asking "U sure U dont want to ask anything????" And it dawned why yes ...my life is not perfect..I have every material thing I need and more then what most people have but I think I have MANY things that I dont need....ANGER and EGO...and HOW they are both SO related ...so i ask Him ...YES I DO have something to ask....please PLEASE remove my anger and EGO....and yes they are related....

Its NOT about what happened or what that person said or did to you ...no no no!!! ...its about how YOU reacted to it....YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so LOOK ......really LOOK into yourself..stop complaining about what other people do. Stop spending your limited life energy mulling over how imperfect people around u are...look into your ownself..Something very hard to do because most people just cant look beyond their own egos...and that is my daily challenge...WHETHER am i really looking into myself or is this my superficial ego speaking.. When I look deep down I know its always my own imperfections that bring me down..So what if I have to deal with egoistic people everyday ...They can only effect me if I allow them to and if I let my EGO take control...If my ego is no where in my viewfinder then whatever people do ot doest not matter...

Life is simple....our EGO complicates it ...have a nice week
